Priorites & Spelling Centers

It seems that at the beginning of every summer I have all of these grand plans of the things I'm going to do.   I had so many plans for this summer & in reality, I've accomplished few of them. My closets are still unorganized & when I see the dust bunny roll like a tumbleweed across my living room floor I think...I'll clean the floor first thing tomorrow morning. But....morning comes & I find I don't care so much about the dust bunny.  I wanted to redo my reading plans so they'd be ready to go for the year, but my flash drive is still sitting on the computer desk as a daily reminder that it's not done.
Having my thyroid removed this year due to thyroid cancer has caused me to change a lot of my priorities. Some days getting through the day without wanting to take a nap is the only accomplishment I have, and I'm ok with that. I've come to realize that the things I worried and stressed about before really weren't all that important in the scheme of things.
I did decide this weekend with only 3 weeks left of summer, that I must at least finish the spelling centers for my classroom that I had planned to do in May. So I made myself sit still & finish Units 1-4. Yeah me!

Michigan & Super Hero Desk Plates

We just got back from a short vacation to Michigan. We had such a wonderful time. The area we go to is just beautiful! I didn't want to return home.

 

There is just nothing quite like seeing the beauty of a sunset over Lake Michigan. It's just gorgeous. It fills my soul. 

I'm busy doing laundry and unpacking still, but I decided to create some cute desk plates for my TPT store. They are free for a short time today. If you grab them, please rate and leave feedback. Thanks!

July Currently

I'm linking up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade for the July Currently.

My 11 year old son is very ADHD & at this hour of the day his medication is out of his system. My husband and I have always say that God has a sense of humor. Giving two elementary school teachers an ADHD child-hilarious. :) Seriously...I wouldn't trade him for the world. though. He fixed his own "breakfast" yesterday. I woke up to find a package of cookies on the counter with the centers all licked clean & the cookie outsides back in the package. So thoughtful.

I've been working this past week on creating new deskplates & lunch choices for my classroom. I love the new designs. I also have started my first blog & am lucky enough to have Lindsey at Thriving in Third working on a new blog design for me.

 

This summer has just flown by! I've spent so much of it in doctors' offices though. Last fall I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer & had my thyroid removed. The past 8 months have not been fun for me. I've gained 30 pounds & have been so exhausted that most days just being awake is a chore. I never knew how many functions the thyroid controlled. I tore a tendon in my foot & have been in physical therapy 3 times a week. With wearing a boot on my foot for weeks my tmj has been acting up & so I've had a sore jaw, head, and neck. I'm going to a tmj specialist tomorrow. I'll be happy when I feel like me again.

We are leaving this weekend for Saint Joseph in Michigan. I love that little town & the beautiful beaches there. I have nothing packed & my husband ate all of the snacks I bought to take with us.

We will spend the 4th of July at our local park. Our town always has a 4th of July tourney for the softball and baseball leagues. We'll spend all day there & watch the fireworks when it gets dark.

Monday Made It!

This is my biggest one. I finally created a blog. It's pretty simple right now & I have so much to learn, but it took me HOURS just to get what I have. So I'm pretty proud of it. I just used a free template from Templates by Tenille. They looked so much prettier than the basic ones on Blogger & although I'd LOVE to have a custom design, the sites I visited had very long wait lists. I have been working on things for my classroom this week. I decided to keep the same color scheme, but wanted to add in some different textures and designs. I created an I have Who has game to use the first few weeks in my classroom. We always start out with place value in 3rd grade. Expanded and Standard form is difficult for them. I know that it's a 2nd grade skill so they've seen it before, yet it always take an enormous amount of class time for my students to master this skill. I created this game to use on Fun Fridays for the first few weeks. My husband is teaching 2nd grade this year so I made it easy enough that his class could do it too. It's also FREE for the next 24 hours!
