October Currently

October Currently!

I can't believe it's October already! Wow!  I'm linking up with Oh Boy 4th Grade for the October linky.

I'm so excited that it's almost fall break. I just need to be able to survive parent conferences next week. They are so exhausting! I love getting to meet everyone & sit down to talk, but by the end of the week, I have no voice left. It's really hard to teach a full week & then have conferences for 4 hours two nights in a row. I've scheduled parents 2 other days as well, so I really have 4 days of conferences.  Last year I was on leave for having thyroid surgery during conferences. That allowed me to actually get to attend my daughter's conferences at the middle school. Wow! What an eye opener. On the 2nd full night of conferences I was still often only the 6th or 7th parent they had seen total for both days. There's definitely a big difference between elementary & secondary.

I have a torn tendon in my foot due to a student tripping me last spring. It hurts constantly & I have to wear a brace each day. I've had to stop taking my daily walks & am really depressed about it. I'm getting an MRI in a few weeks since it hasn't improved, but am not real hopeful.

I can't wait to get to Panama City! I haven't packed a thing though. I'm thinking that's my weekend plans.

For my TREAT I've shared my fall themed editable morning work display.

There's Not Enough Time in the Day!

Do you ever feel like there's just not enough time in the day? I have all of these amazing plans that I want to do in my classroom and at home. However, some days just finding time to take a restroom break seems like an accomplishment.:)

I've made a goal to make at least one new product for my classroom and my TPT store each weekend. So far, I've been able to stick to that goal, but because of that, my blog has suffered neglect. Oh well...I never claimed to be Supermom or Superteacher. So, I'm just going to be proud of myself for what I have done & move on.

We got a new kitten this week! His name is Magnus. (My 13 year old daughter and I love The Mortal Instruments series & Magnus is a character in the books.)  He's so tiny & so cute! However, we really didn't need one more thing to take care of but...I think I'm more in love with him than our kids. ;)

You'll have to check out some of the cute things I've made for my classroom!! I have several new 4 corners games, some new task cards, and a new I Have Who has Game!

September Currently

I'm linking up with Oh' Boy 4th Grade for the September Currently.

I LOVE the Game of Thrones theme song. My daughter plays the cello & I keep encouraging her to ask her orchestra teacher if they can play the theme song because the cello part is so pretty. Anyway, somebody on YouTube did a a Big 10 version that is so neat. (We're IU Alumni.) I couldn't wait to show my husband, so he's watching it now.

I am a Big Brother addict. I've watched every single season. My husband used to watch it with me, but he refuses now. My 13 year old daughter has started watching it with me the last two seasons. I love that she & I have something to do together. I'm so sad that she's growing up so fast, so anything we have in common to do together is that much more special.

I have so many doctor appointments this week & I am dreading them. It makes the week so crazy when I leaving right after school & heading out of town to appointments. I'm also dreading seeing my endocrinologist this week because I know I have to schedule to have radioactive iodine treatment done again.

My house looks awful! I have been sick the past year & tired beyond belief. Apparently it doesn't bother the rest of my family that the weeds have taken over. My wonderful sister has volunteered to come down and help me redo all of my flower beds & plant things that are less maintenance. I can't wait.

I NEED the air conditioning to work in my classroom. It is hard enough to entertain 3rd graders all day and teach them the amount of information that we need to cram in during a normal day. But...when it's in the 90's outside & the air in my room doesn't work it's even worse. I am so sick of complaining about it & being ignored. Very frustrating.

I have always wanted to go to Fiji & stay in one of the huts on the water. The photographs look amazing. I've also wanted to tour the Hawaiian islands since I was a little girl. When I was in college I had a professor from Germany. He was talking about all of the places he had visited or lived & said that he thought Rome was the most beautiful city of all of them. I'd love to see it one day.

Classroom Reveal

I'm linking up with The Primary Gal, Just A Primary Girl,  & Laugh Eat Learn for my classroom reveal.

http://theprimarygal.blogspot.com/
http://justaprimarygirl.blogspot.com/2014/08/setting-up-success-classroom-pictures.html
I'm just going to start by saying that this is not my favorite classroom. I've been in 9 different classrooms in my building, but this is not my favorite. There was flooding in my room several years ago.  My cork walls are wavy, I actually have to have posters cover up plaster that was left on the wall from a moved fire alarm, and in the front of the room I just have a piece of hanging/ broken plywood for my electrical outlet. The worst part is that the air conditioning unit doesn't work correctly so we are hot constantly. I have 2 fans in the room to try to cool it down, which is not great to talk over, but they help. It's a small room with not a lot of options for arranging things due to the outside door & placement of cubbies. It stressed me out quite a bit when I moved into this room.

I finally decided that due to the small space everything in my room needed to be in the same color scheme. I felt that by focusing on 2-3 colors for everything that it would help the space look larger. I painted all of the items I already owned, and purchased or made a lot of new items. I think it turned out ok, even though I still don't like the room itself. The room now has a calming feel to me & I've been able to camouflage the flaws & make the room feel like me.

Our school has a music theme this year. I tried to keep mine with the same color scheme & went with a 50's music theme.
I created this new slide to display each morning for our morning routine. I LOVE it.

This is our 3rd grade AR bulletin board. My friend Lori created the words and border. I created the piano board. Then we had wonderful assistants at the end of they year that put it up for us. We covered it & left it over the summer. Each of the 5 third grade classroom has a different color of music notes. Students' names go on the music notes & they are moved down the keyboard based on the number of AR points they have.
This is our 3rd grade Rocket Math bulletin board. This rocket took me HOURS to make. I am not an artist at all.  My teaching friend Emi, spent several hours with me stapling up the red strips and trying to shape it. Then I found ribbon to border each section, aluminum foil, and cellophane to finish it up. Last year our amazing assistants took it down, laminated it, and reassembled it for us. Then I added the cute scrunchy border. Each classroom has large push pins in a different color. Students move their push pins up the rocket once they pass a specific level.

I found these cute placemats on clearance for less than a dollar at Hobby Lobby. I laminated them & put them in the hall to display my students' work. It's not finished yet. I'd like to add each student's picture to their own mat, but it hasn't happened yet.
